Totnes. The Brutus stone is a small granite boulder that is currently embedded in a pavement on Fore Street. According to local tradition, the stone was the first thing Brutus stepped on when he disembarked from his ship, saying, “Here I stand and here I rest. And this town shall be called Totnes.”
